Publishing
Reading and books have always been a special part of my life and it deserved a tab of its own. Whenever I can, I try to involve myself around projects that have to do with books, and I love designing digital and physical book covers. Here are some of the works I have created! :)
Children's Typography Book Class project
For this project, we were tasked with designing book pages based off of a word and or design prompt. Because I wanted to tie everything together, created a simple and playful book cover design for this project in my free time. This project was a lot of fun to work on and really got me thinking of how best to represent the words and design prompts I was given!
Recreating Green Eggs & Ham
This project involved taking Green Eggs & Ham and recreating it into different genres: Romance, cookbook, adventure/fantasy.
Broken Wing Typeface
I was given the task of creating my own typeface from scratch. This project was inspired by all of the deeply personal issues and pain I had gone through in my life and how wings were a very strong symbol to me. I wanted to show that I was someone who did have scars, but was healing and the best way to represent this was to combine kintsugi (the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.) with wings over my favorite typeface (Averia Serif Libre).
Projects Recreated Into Vintage Book Covers
This was originally a passion project where I wanted to remake every cover for my projects into book covers. I later decided against this since it wouldn't best represent the visual identity of the projects I was working on, however I will continue to make these in my free time! These are just some of the ones I created so far:
Design Test - Cookbook
This was a project I worked on as a design test for an interview. (unfortunately, no, I didn't get the job).
Penguin Random House Class Project
For this project brief, I had to create something that would get others to read more and would also encourage diversity through books in different languages. My solution was to create a bus stop bookcase where those who are waiting for the bus could take a book and go. This would work like a little free library but with more diverse languages and genres. Bus stop goers will be encouraged to take the books or leave a book (potentially through a poster or sign).
Design Glossary
This was my first big inDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop project that I had received in the first semester of Communications Design in college. I was tasked with creating a glossary with design terms that also gave a visual example. My inspiration for this project was a colorful kitschy aesthetic and used a mixture of design and kitschy toys/ figurines.
